A SUPPORT FOR YOUNG ARTISTS
Once a year, a competition is organized to select the artists who will be able to benefit from a residency accompanied by a grant awarded by the Foundation.
This competition is reserved for young visual artists between the ages of 18 and 30, and whose approach is part of a contemporary approach.
From September to June, the winners of the competition are offered an artist's daily studio located in the heart of Brussels (77 rue du Canal, 1000 Brussels).
During the residency from October to June, a monthly grant of 300 € is paid to them as a contribution to the purchase of their material.
They benefit from the attentive accompaniment of a professional art historian.
At the end of their stay, the fellows exhibit the works created during the residency. The exhibition is inaugurated in June 2023 and lasts one month.
In consultation with the artist, the Foundation also purchases a work of art from each resident, for an amount of 700 €.
The jury, composed of professionals from the contemporary art sector, meets at the beginning of September and selects the grant holders after examining their applications. The artists are informed of the decision in the following days. The winners can move into the studios as soon as they have been informed of the decision, after having accepted the conditions of use of the premises. At the end of July at the latest, the fellows must clean the premises and return them in the same condition as they received them.
Becoming a Fellow
The call for applications for the 2022-2023 residency is issued in April 2022. Candidates can send their application, in accordance with the competition rules, until August 1, 2022 (midnight). The complete file must be sent by e-mail (or via WeTransfer) to the artistic director Laura Neve at laura@carrefourdesarts.be
THE FILE MUST INCLUDE
full contact information: last name, first name, mailing address, phone number, email address and date of birth of the applicant.
a curriculum vitae detailing his or her artistic career: training, diplomas, exhibitions, residencies, prizes, etc.
a note of intent (maximum 3 pages of text) including:
- an explanation of the candidate's work, directly related to the visual material provided in the application (brief and clear description of his/her artistic vision as illustrated in the examples).
- a description of the project he/she wishes to develop during the residency (and how this residency will help him/her take a significant step forward in his/her artistic career). Development and purpose of the project (intention, materials used, exploration of creative methods, etc.).
- visual material: 7 images and/or 2 videos maximum illustrating the candidate's work (mentioning titles, materials, dimensions and dates).
- the competition rules, dated and signed. Please read them carefully.
The different documents must be put together in a single pdf document, except for the signed rules which will be a separate file. The pdf should not exceed 13 pages and the weight should not exceed 7 MB. Videos will preferably be integrated into the file via a link.
The jury
The jury, composed of professionals from the contemporary visual arts sector, will meet around September 1st to deliberate and select the winners with the Board of Directors. The decision is communicated in the following days
